Must See

Some are old, some are new, but all of them are obligatory short films for those who love the art of filmmaking and for those who want to learn from the best out there. Our first suggestion is the Oscar winning live-action short The Long Goodbye, directed by Aneil Karia and co-written by Karia and Riz Ahmed. This compelling exploration of societal tensions is already a British classic.

The second is a groundbreaking 1962 French short film directed by Chris Marker, the influential La Jetée. It presents a unique and haunting narrative through a series of still images, with innovative storytelling and exploration of time, memory, and the human experience.

CenterFrame in the Spotlight

In the 11 minutes of the powerful CenterFrame-funded short film Crusts, directed by Alfie Dale and written by Ben Ferrity - both members of the CenterFrame community - we witness a family coping with the unexpected death of their patriarch. A Northern Irish tale of grief, the film offers a beautiful and moving conclusion, this poignant short film delves deep and leaves a long-lasting impact. The short film was screened during the CenterFrame Spotlight on January 30th and can be seen in multiple festivals across the globe.

Oscar Winner on YouTube

The Last Repair Shop is a deeply moving and uplifting documentary short film that won the 2024 Oscar for Best Documentary Short. Directed by Ben Proudfoot and Kris Bowers, this nearly 40-minute film explores the lives of four artisans in Los Angeles who are dedicated to maintaining 80,000 musical instruments for the city's public school system. You can watch it for free on YouTube.

Shorts of Sundance

The Sundance Film Festival holds significant importance for short films, providing a platform for emerging filmmakers to showcase their creativity, innovation, and storytelling prowess to a global audience. This year was no exception, with a wide range of short films, which includes the late coming-of-age animation called 27 (pictured on the right), the festival presented more than fifty short films from all over the world and from the most different genres. The event was held from January 18, 2024 to January 28, 2024 in Utah, United States.
