Welcome to the latest instalment of Make It Short - the show dedicated to short films - featuring interviews with filmmakers, and exploring the journey of bringing a short film to fruition!
Today, I am joined by our regular panellist, filmmaker and co-founder of CenterFrame, Bernhard Pucher, and we are both delighted to welcome once again the remarkable screenwriter Tina Walker, to our panel.
Together, we will delve into the frightening short film The Sound, a captivating multi-genre tale crafted by the talented filmmaker Jason-Christopher Mayer, who kindly submitted it to our show.
In The Sound, we follow the experiences of a woman who loses her hearing suddenly following a strange occurrence. Some years later, she is with her sister when another mysterious and terrifying event takes place. I will not spoil the shocking end of The Sound here, so I strongly recommend you go and watch it before watching our conversation. I can guarantee that this dramatic horror-thriller will make your head explode!
Though we all very much enjoyed watching The Sound, Bernhard and Tina felt that the film left them wanting more - which is both a good and a bad thing. While we could all see that Jason is a great director and has created a fascinating universe with appealing characters, the story itself felt more like a proof of concept.
When we invited Jason to join us for a chat, we realized that this was pretty much the case: As often happens with short film projects, The Sound started its life as something completely different, and was intended to be a multi-episode TV series.
As we discussed more details with Jason, we learned incredible things about the casting of The Sound and some other interesting projects of his.
