Sometimes, while solving one problem, you discover another and an opportunity to fix it.

While speaking with indie producers about how they discover talent and new projects, I noticed a glaring issue: most producers and agents only watch short films when personally recommended by a colleague. And even then, they often view them on laptops or mobile phones, hardly the best way to discover the next voices of cinema.

Also just watching the short film isn’t enough. For filmmakers to get onto the horizon of the industry’s leading producers, they also must meet when their full attention is on their work. There had to be a better way to bring cinema’s upcoming talent and their exceptional stories up close and personal with the industry.

Enter the CenterFrame Industry Showcase.

To bring the best talent to the UK’s top production companies and agencies, we partnered with Tysers Live and Simons Muirhead Burton LLP and combined our networks to give these films the attention they deserve. Attendees included BBC Studios, Searchlight Pictures, Wychwood Media, Tea Shop, Baby Cow, Fremantle, Liberty Films, Recorded Picture Company, Infinity Hill, Shush Films, Casarotto Ramsay, United Agents, Imagine Talent, and more. Their response to the films exceeded all our expectations.

The lineup featured four incredible short films:

The gripping horror micro-short The Lure (Tony Hipwell, Cal O’Connell).
The BIFA long-listed gem Crusts (Ben Ferrity, Alfie Dale).
The poignant Boy in the Backseat (Scott Pickup, James Owen).
The crowd-pleasing BFI London Audience Award-winner Two Minutes (Jamie Benyon, Annie Lees-Jones).

These talented filmmakers not only showcased their work to an influential audience but are now connected to CenterFrame’s wider industry network.

If you have an exceptional short film (premiered within the last five years and under 20 minutes), we’d love to see it! Post it to CenterFrame’s FILMS page, and it could be featured in our next showcase in March. To be eligible, post it by February 10th and leave it accessible (no passwords, please). Once posted, your film will stay in consideration for future showcases as long as it’s still online.
